Over the weekend of 24th and 25th April, staff from Hollingworth Learning Trust Academies took part in a charity challenge, ‘Going the distance’ for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Staff from Newhouse Academy and Hollingworth Academy pledged their miles over land and water; running, walking (with children, pets and many snacks in tow), canoeing and cycling.
Organised by Hannah Gregory-Harris, a Deputy Head-teacher at Newhouse Academy, this was the first of hopefully many joint academy events since Newhouse became part of the Hollingworth Learning Trust just over 12 months ago.
Mrs Gregory-Harris said, “I’m really pleased we have been able to complete this challenge across the trust. Macmillan Cancer Support is an organisation close to the hearts of our staff team at this time. Despite the current difficult circumstances brought about by coronavirus Macmillan has continued to do whatever it takes to give people the support they need.”
Newhouse Academy and Hollingworth Academy clocked up many miles between them and raised more than £800 going the distance for Macmillan.
Some members of staff completed the couch to 5k, one ran the furthest they have to date, (11k after completing the couch to 5k earlier in the year), one ran a 20k mega-run, one completely went past their pledged target of cycling 40k and hit 101k over the weekend! Another chose to complete their miles via the water in their canoe – totalling 12k!
